about
One Wish is the third track Bikôkô is releasing this 2023, showcasing a more evolved sound that mixes her love for African Percussions with a more electronic / experimental vibe. She explains that this track happened so fast: she made the core of the song in just one day.
Then she tried to incorporate contrasting elements: after she had the chords, she started the verse by sampling a groove from the West-African band BLO. She knew she wanted to add a different set of drums in the chorus, something that sounded surprising but that still made sense rhythmically. At the time, she was listening to Jungle and D&B mixes, so she decided to sample some drums and tweak the rhythm to match the pattern.
lyrics
Make it make sense for me,
How are you still on my mind?
It’s been three years.
Thought I was crazy,
Until my telly one night chimed
« I love you dear »
I’ve been sending you messages in treble clef
I’ll give myself to you until there’s nothing left
Feeding the fire of your memory
‘Cause if I forgot about you,
Then who would I be?
Who would I be?
Who would I be?
Who would I be, now?
(ah, ah, ah, ah)
Might have failed to communicate it,
You were all I wished for on every birthday.
Miss you more and more each day
I’ll wait for you like you did for me
Who would I be?
Who would I be?
Who would I be, now?
(ah, ah, ah, ah)
I’ve been sending you messages in treble clef
I’ll give myself to you until there’s nothing left
Feeding the fire of your memory
‘Cause if I forgot about you,
Then who would I be?
Who would I be?
I’m still sending you messages in treble clef
I gave myself to you and there is plenty left
Popping up strategically in your memory
‘Cause if you forgot about me,
Then who would I be?
